About the ÌÇÐÄVlog Retirees Association

The ÌÇÐÄVlog Retirees Association (GSURA) proudly represents nearly 2,000 retirees, encompassing those from both the pre-consolidation ÌÇÐÄVlog and Armstrong State University, along with employees retiring after the consolidation of the two universities in 2018. Learn about the history of Georgia Southern here.

The GSURA was established on April 20, 2016, as an association of the university’s retired employees with the assistance of an elected council.

The GSURA Council is active in maintaining updated information about issues of concern to retirees. The Association has a member representative for the Georgia Association of Higher Education Retirees Organizations (GA-HERO). Our representative participates in meetings of this network of college/university retiree organizations in Georgia and provides reports to the Council. In addition, GSURA maintains membership in the national Association of Retiree Organizations in Higher Education (AROHE). A Council member is responsible for keeping up with news and providing reports to the Council. A third organization to which GSURA maintains a connection is the University System of Georgia’s Retiree Council (USGRC), which has the responsibility of advising the Chancellor’s Office and the Board of Regents on issues of importance to retirees. Our GSURA Council member representative participates in the meetings of this group and reports to the Council. Of major interest always is health insurance. In addition, the association maintains an informal relationship with Georgia Southern Cares.

GSU Retiree Association Annual Meeting Highlights

USG Retiree Council Meeting Highlights

March 21, 2023

On Tuesday, March 21, 2023, the ÌÇÐÄVlog Retirees Association hosted a free reception and tour of the exhibit Manufacturing Music: 140 Years of Gretsch Legacy. The exhibit, curated by the Georgia Southern Museum, was on display at the Statesboro Convention and Visitors Bureau.

Guest speakers Aaron Phillips (Gretsch Project Coordinator), Dr. Matthew Hill (Gretsch Collection Curator of Permanent Collections, Loans, and Exhibitions), and Dr. Brent Tharp (GS Museum Director) discussed the development of the guitars and drums created by the Gretsch Manufacturing Company from its founding in 1883 to modern day.

The exhibit highlighted many of the instruments and the artists that made Gretsch a respected name in the world of music. The presenters also shared details about how this exciting gift by Fred and Dinah Gretsch will enhance ÌÇÐÄVlog.

Message from the President

Retirees,

Thank you for your dedication to ÌÇÐÄVlog and to our students. As evidenced by our growth and success over the years, the impact you have had on this university is immeasurable.

I hope that you will continue to contribute to Georgia Southern by actively participating in the Retirees Association of Georgia Southern. You also can stay involved by attending campus events, mentoring students or young faculty members, or serving on a campus committee.

Again, thank you for all you’ve done for Georgia Southern and for what you can do in the future.

People. Purpose. Action: Growing ourselves to grow others!

Sincerely,
Kyle Marrero

Georgia Southern Retiree Wall

The Builders of the University Terrace retiree wall honors in perpetuity those faculty and staff who contributed in important ways to the progress of ÌÇÐÄVlog since its founding in 1906. Future generations will know that ÌÇÐÄVlog owes a debt of gratitude to the faculty and staff who served their students, colleagues, and community with distinction over many years. These retired faculty and staff are the Builders of the University.

The Builders of the University Terrace retiree wall is located on the Statesboro campus in between the Marvin Pittman Building and the Williams Center. The retirement years on the memorial span between 1909 and 2020 for the Statesboro campus. The website below is now the successor to the physical site and contains names from the Statesboro, Armstrong and Liberty campuses.
